COMMON QUESTIONS
Asked and answered
How much does an asphalt driveway cost in Launceston?+
Pricing depends on size, access, base condition, and finish. Most residential driveways fall within a standard per-square-metre rate, we'll quote in writing after a site visit, usually within 48 hours.
How long does asphalt take to cure before I can drive on it?+
Foot traffic is fine within a few hours of laying. Light vehicles after 24–48 hours. Avoid heavy vehicles (boat trailers, caravans) for at least 7 days while the asphalt fully sets up.
Do you lay asphalt in winter in Northern Tas?+
Yes, with the right planning. Asphalt needs dry conditions and ground temp above 5°C. We schedule winter jobs around the forecast, work with the local plant on hot-mix availability, and tarp where needed. Cold-snap weeks (June–July) we'll often hold off a few days for a clean run.
What's the difference between asphalt and bitumen?+
Bitumen is the black binder. Asphalt is bitumen mixed with crushed aggregate. When most people in Launceston say 'bitumen driveway' they usually mean asphalt, and that's what we lay.
Do I need council approval for a driveway in Launceston?+
The driveway within your boundary doesn't need a building permit. You will need a crossover application with the City of Launceston (or your local council) before we cut the kerb. We can point you to the right form.
How far in advance do I need to book?+
Spring and summer (Oct–Mar) book out fast, 4–6 weeks lead time is typical. Autumn and winter are usually 2–3 weeks. We quote in writing usually within 48 hours, and the deposit locks the date.
Do you provide a workmanship guarantee?+
Yes. Every job is backed by our workmanship guarantee in writing. If anything's not right inside the guarantee period, we come back and fix it. Spelled out on the quote so there's no ambiguity.
What areas do you cover?+
We cover Launceston metro and the wider Northern Tasmania region, from George Town and Beaconsfield through to Scottsdale and Devonport. If you're outside that range, call and ask, we take on regional jobs when the timing works.
